Johnny Paycheck is a former country singer and songwriter. He was born on May 31, 1938 in Greenfield, Ohio, USA. Throughout his career, he has worked for several artists including Ray Price, Porter Wagoner, and Faron Young. His biggest hit was “Take This Job and Shove It,” which sold two million copies.

Paycheck was the son of a barge worker. He began playing music at age nine, and left home at fifteen to become a professional musician. In 1961, he met George Jones, a fellow country singer. They married, but later divorced. The pair had a love-hate relationship. Both of them were heavy drinkers and partied a lot.

Paycheck’s early career was in a back-up band for other artists. When his career took off, he played bass on more than a dozen albums. But his short temper and addiction to alcohol and drugs eventually led him to quit music altogether. By 1990, he had fallen into serious financial debt. However, his final years were spent in peace.

Paycheck released his first album in 1958, and his music became popular in the mid-’70s. His biggest hit was “Take This Job And Shove It.” The song went to number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs. Later that year, he also won the Country Music Association Award for Vocal Duo of the Year.

In 1971, Paycheck signed with Epic Records, and his solo albums remained with the label for more than ten years. His hits included “She’s All I Got” and “Love Bug.” Aside from his solo work, he was also a member of the Grand Ole Opry.

When he was arrested in 1985 for aggravated assault, he was convicted of a violent crime and sentenced to a nine-year prison term. He was also sued by the Internal Revenue Service for $103,000 in back taxes. Although he was found not guilty, he continued to face legal issues. After he was released, he returned to the Grand Ole Opry in 1997.

Johnny Paycheck’s life and career were full of highs and lows. He was the recipient of several awards, including the Country Music Association Award for Male Vocalist of the Year, and the American Music Award for Favorite Country Single. At the time of his death, his net worth was estimated at $10 million.

Johnny Paycheck’s personal life was full of scandals and run-ins with the law. One incident in particular involved a barroom brawl in Hillsboro, Ohio. Not only did he shoot a stranger, but he also admitted to problems with drugs and alcohol. Sadly, he died in February 2003 at the age of 65. Despite his problems, his life is still remembered as a great music survivor.

Johnny Paycheck’s legacy is now being carried on by his son Jonathan. Jonathan was a member of the Grand Ole Opry, and he has a family. As well as his wife, three daughters, and four granddaughters, Johnny’s estate includes his surviving family.

In addition to his music, Johnny Paycheck was known for his many adventures with the law. Many of his run-ins with the police resulted in criminal charges.
