Dean Stockwell gained new success in middle age with a string of indelible performances, starting with his role as Harry Dean Stanton’s drifting brother in Wim Wenders’ Paris, Texas and followed by David Lynch’s noirish psycho-thriller Blue Velvet. He also starred as Mafia don Tony “The Tiger” Russo in Jonathan Demme’s Married to the Mob, which netted him an Academy Award nomination.
A popular TV actor, Stockwell played memorable oddballs or establishment figures with equal ease, on everything from Mannix to Battlestar Galactica. He recurred as cigar-smoking, womanizing rear admiral Albert Calavicci on the cult sci-fi series Quantum Leap (1989) and brother Cavil in the Sci-Fi Channel revival of Battlestar Galactica (2006-09).
After a brief hiatus from acting in the 1960s, Stockwell returned to show business with a memorable role in the Broadway play Compulsion. He later explored the psychedelic counterculture, appearing in the low-budget psychedelic cult film Psych-Out alongside Jack Nicholson and Susan Strasberg.
His Personal Life
Austin Stockwell is the son of hollywood star Dean Stockwell and actress Joy Marchenko. He was born in Los Angeles, California and grew up there with his father. He has two siblings, Sean and pat.
Stockwell began acting at a young age. He appeared in films like Anchors Aweigh, The Green Years, Gentleman’s Agreement and Kim.
He also made an impact in the 1980s when he starred as Admiral Al Calavicci on Quantum Leap, NBC’s popular sci-fi series. His role earned him four Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe award.
