Daryle Lamonica is a famous American football player. He played quarterback for the Oakland Raiders and the Buffalo Bills. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In addition, he was selected as the AFL’s Most Valuable Player in 1967. Throughout his career, Lamonica had a record of 145 touchdown passes, making him one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.

His playing career began in 1963. After he was drafted by the Buffalo Bills, he went on to play in the National Football League (NFL) for eight seasons. During this period, he led the team to a Super Bowl II victory. Later in his career, he moved to the World Football League (WFL), where he played for the Southern California Sun for one season.

Upon his retirement, he had accumulated a substantial fortune. His total net worth had reached  $61 million at the time of his death. This amount was the highest for an AFL player, according to the Professional Football Researchers Association.

Lamonica grew up on a ranch in the Central Valley of California. After high school, he attended the University of Notre Dame. He also played on the first Little League World Series team. By the time he was drafted by the Buffalo Bills, his father had died. Therefore, his mother, Betty Harris, took over the family’s finances.

When Daryle Lamonica was a junior in high school, his hometown of Clovis, California, renamed their high school stadium after him. He was nicknamed the “Mad Bomber” because he was able to throw long passes. While at Clovis High School, he received numerous honors. Some of his awards were the California Golden Bear Award, Fresno County High School Athletic Association Player of the Year, and the National Federation of State High School Associations All-American.

In 1963, he was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the 24th round of the NFL draft. From there, he spent four years with the Bills as a backup quarterback. However, in 1973, he was replaced by Ken Stabler. Despite this, Lamonica led the Raiders to a division title in each of the next four seasons. Besides his playing, he also hosted Outdoors with the Pros on Fox Sports Net.

During his professional career, he was recognized as a two-time AFL Most Valuable Player and a three-time AFL All-Star. During his storied career, he completed 2,601 pass attempts and had a passer rating of 72.9. Ultimately, he was selected to play in the Pro Bowl in 1970 and 1971.

After his playing career ended, Lamonica married Mary. They had two children. Their son, Brandon, was born in 1977. The couple was together for 40 years. At the time of his death in April 2021, Daryle was eighty-two years old. Sadly, he died of natural causes.

As a football player, Lamonica earned a great deal of money, but his main source of income was his primary role as a Football Player. His success on the field, coupled with his wealth from other areas of his life, contributed to his overall fortune.
