The federal government has created a program that provides free and low-cost telephone service to qualified Native Americans. The federal government’s Universal Service Fund funded the program. As long as you’re living on federally recognized tribal land, you can receive up to $25 per month in Lifeline assistance. In addition, the program offers discounts on internet and phone service.
Eligibility for the program depends on your household’s income, participation in certain federal programs (including Head Start and Medicaid), and involvement in Tribal-specific assistance programs such as Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance and Tribal Head Start. Eligible households can receive a one-time discount of up to $100. However, to qualify for this program, you must show proof of income to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)-appointed National Verifier.
Discounts On Voice Or Broadband Service
You may qualify for voice or broadband service discounts if you are on a limited income and use the Lifeline phone program. These discounts can be applied to voice service or a phone and internet bundle. However, you can only take advantage of these discounts if you are eligible for one of the federally recognized assistance programs.
The Lifeline phone program is a federal government initiative to make communications affordable for low-income consumers. Requires Proof Of Participation
To receive the discount, you must provide proof of your eligibility, including evidence of your income and participation in an eligible program. Moreover, you must meet the income guidelines and the program rules before receiving your Lifeline phone service. You must also mail the proof to the Lifeline Support Center. In addition, you will be required to provide proof of your address, identity, and eligibility during the enrollment process.
