After marrying Jim Bakker, the two began their ministry together in South Carolina. Later, they moved to Minneapolis. PTL was a satellite network, and the two co-hosted a popular children’s program called “Jim and Tammy.”

Messner was first diagnosed with colon cancer in 1996. But she recovered, and was cancer free in 2006. She was also in remission when she returned to her televised shows in 2004. However, in mid-2004, she was re-diagnosed with lung cancer, and was told she would need oxygen to speak. Nevertheless, she continued to make appearances on Larry King’s show.

Tammy Faye Messner died on July 20, 2007. She was 65 years old when she passed away. Her death was a sad one for Messner’s fans. Although her death was caused by a non-communicable disease, she was remembered for her frank discussions on taboo topics, such as HIV/AIDS. She also had a large family.
